Martha E. Hickey, R.N.

Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother;

Martha E. (Prescott) Hickey, R.N., 101, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday June 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was the loving wife of the late John J. Hickey, Sr. who died in 2004.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 4, 1924, the daughter of the late William and the late Mary (Mullin) Prescott, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Martha then went on to graduate from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing.

A devoted wife and mother, Martha gave up her career in nursing to get married and raise her family. In her later years she worked at her son John's Nabnassett liquor store in Westford as the manager and finally retired on her birthday at age 90.  

Among her many interests, Martha enjoyed playing bingo and Keno and her trips to Alton New Hampshire. However, she was most happy when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

She is survived by three children Martha E. Thompson and her husband Robert of Chelmsford, John J. Hickey, Jr. of Tyngsboro and Mary E. Boyle and her partner Robert Radford of Nashua, NH; three grandchildren Jeffrey Thompson and his wife Alison, Kate Ingles and her husband Steven and Michael Thompson and his wife Amanda  ; six great grandchildren Jack, Rowan, Josie, Molly, Ellis and Rhea; and many nieces and nephews.  

The Hickey family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Sunny Acres in Chelmsford for the care and compassion they extended to their mother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Monday June 29, 2026, at ST. MARGARET OF SCOTLAND CHURCH in Lowell at 10:00 o’clock.
