Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, in-law and friend;
Maureen (Reardon) Gervais, wife of the late Stephen L. Gervais Sr., died of the effects of dementia on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lowell, on October 10, 1942, Maureen was the daughter of the late Francis D. Reardon and the late K. Doris (Howard) (Reardon) Sullivan. She was a Star Scholar graduate of the Lowell High School Class of 1960, and received her bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College in 1964. Maureen taught for a number of years at Chelmsford High School and the Immaculate Conception School, but devoted most of her time to raising her three children.
Once her boys had reached middle school age she became increasingly involved in volunteer and philanthropic work in both Lowell and Kennebunk Beach, Maine. She was a past president of Lowell Catholic College Club and Girls Incorporated of Greater Lowell, and was a past board member of Girls Inc. and the Greater Lowell Visiting Nurse Association.
Maureen spent time with the Lowell Garden Club and the Lowell Association for the Blind. She was a volunteer at St. John’s Hospital in Lowell, and was Miss Maureen, the piano player at the Lowell Day Nursery for a number of years. Her deep and abiding faith manifested in her serving as a volunteer religious education teacher for decades at St. John the Evangelist parish in North Chelmsford, and the Immaculate Conception parish in Lowell. She also ran the Confirmation program at the Immaculate for a time in the 1980s and 1990s.
Among her numerous awards were the Adult Volunteer Bankers Award from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, and the Cheverus Award from the Roman Catholic Church, and numerous certificates and acknowledgements for her tireless work.
Maureen loved baking, eating peanut M&Ms, playing the piano and bridge, singing, reading, spending time at the ocean and the lake, going out for ice cream, working on word puzzles, taking candid pictures, buying Christmas ornaments, choosing gifts, organizing, volunteering, helping out and sometimes being bossy.
She is survived by her three sons: Stephen L. Jr. and his wife Alison (Fisher) of Lowell, Michael D. and his partner, Jennifer McCann of Nashua, New Hampshire, and John F. and his wife Jennifer (Brennan) of Groton, and her grandchildren: Catherine M. of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; James A. of Lowell; Sophia L. and Olivia M. of Groton; and Jacqueline A. and Jacob R. of Groton. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor (Reardon) Sullivan of Lowell; her brother, James F. Reardon of Dracut; stepsister Imelda “Mel” (Sullivan) Jurgen and her husband Robert of Andover, and stepbrother David Sullivan and his wife Judith (Rogers) Sullivan of Rye, New Hampshire. She was also the sister-in-law of Ann (Reilly) Gervais of Lowell and Norma (Kenyon) Gervais of Chelmsford. Cousin Maureen or Auntie Moe is also survived by her cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout North America; and dear friends John and Sheila Harrington of Lowell.
In death, Maureen joins her late in-laws Daniel F. Sullivan, Robert V. Gervais, Jack Gervais, G. Phillip Gervais, Miriam (O’Brien) Gervais, Janet (Gervais) Reilly, David Reilly, Judith (Gervais) Pfeiffer and Melvin Pfeiffer, and David Gervais. She was also stepsister of the late Jay Sullivan and his late wife Susan, and Maureen Naze.
The Gervais Family would like to thank the staff members at both the Saab Building at D’Youville in Lowell and at Fairview Senior Living in Hudson, New Hampshire for their care of Maureen during the years she was with them.
