Beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather;
Peter James Danas, 91, of Lowell, Massachusetts, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 11, 2026, at the Fairhaven Health Center in Lowell.
He was the loving husband of the late Dorothea (Alexiou) Danas who died December 28, 2020.
Born in Lowell, MA, October 19, 1934, the son of the late James P. and the late Patricia (Contos) Danas, he was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1952. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Merrimack College in 1956.
He continued his education, attaining his Master’s in Education from Salem State and later his PHD in Mathematics. He also spent two years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Peter taught mathematics for the Billerica school system at the Marshall Middle School in Billerica for over 35 years.
In addition, he was the owner and operator with family of the former Danas Fruit and Confectionery store in Lowell, a multigenerational family-owned business in downtown Lowell.
Active in his community and his church, he was a former Parish Council President and Treasurer for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. In addition, he was a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks and Merrimack College Alumni.
Among his several interests, Peter enjoyed writing as a correspondent for the Hellenic Chronicle, Greek dancing, music and traditions. However, his highest priority was his Orthodox faith. He also cherished time spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Peter is survived by two sons James P. Danas and his wife Elaine of Dracut and John P. Danas and his wife Joyce of Lowell; two daughters Patricia Danas Vaporis and her husband Rev. John Vaporis of Lowell and Christine Apollos and her husband John of Concord, MA; 13 grandchildren Peter Danas, Constantine Danas, Alexander Danas, Christopher Danas, Dorothea (Vaporis) and her husband Emmanuel Lagoudakis, Nominkos Vaporis, Petra Kosmia Vaporis, Roman Vaporis, Kara Danas, Johanna Danas, Dimitrios Apollos, Aristaios Apollos ; a great grandson Leonidas Lagoudakis; three sisters Antonia “Toni” Lawrenson, Christine Spinelli, and Georgia Dodge all of Lowell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Tuesday morning April 21, 2026, at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY CHURCH in LOWELL from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. His Funeral Service will follow in the Church at 11 o’clock. Burial at the Westlawn Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
