Retired Principal Charlotte Murkland Elementary School;
Roger F. Landry, 80, of Lowell, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 9, 2025, at the Lahey Clinic surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband for over 55 years of Margie A. (Murray) Landry, who survives him.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 31, 1944, the son of the late Hector and the late Charlotte (Bedard) Landry, he attended St. Joseph Grammar school and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Class of 1962.
He continued his education at Lowell State Teachers College (nka U/Mass Lowell) where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree in Education. He also took advanced education courses at Boston College.
Throughout his career in the Lowell school system, first as a schoolteacher and later as a principal, Roger dedicated his life to educating the children of Lowell.
He began teaching the 6th grade in Lowell at the McAvinnue Elementary School and later became the principal of the former Green School.
Prior to his retirement in 2002, Roger served as the Principal of the Charlotte Murkland Elementary school for over 20 years.
Always considered by his family and friends to be a kind and thoughtful man, he also had a great sense of humor.
A proud member of the “Wednesday Night Boat Crew”, Roger was blessed with a strong circle of lifelong friends who were part of the fabric of his life. Whether it was memorable trips to Las Vegas or Saratoga with the guys or as couples to Florida and elsewhere, or family vacations with Margie, his children and cherished grandchildren at the beach, he also looked forward to eventually coming back to his home, Lowell.
Besides his wife, Roger is survived by his two loving daughters Carolyn M. Landry and her husband John Holdsworth of Lowell and Patricia E. Landry and her husband Dr. Stephan Heo of Bedford, NH; four grandchildren Ellie, Stevie, Charlie and Roger; his step-grandchildren Alyssa and Samuel; a brother Daniel Landry and his wife Denise of Lowell; six sisters Suzanne Morin and her husband Raymond of Lowell, Michelle Turcotte and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, Jacqueline Dubuque and her husband Paul of Lowell, Jeannine Bergeron and her husband Thomas of Dracut, Charlotte Beausoleil and her husband Dennis of Lowell and Anne Marie Schermerhorn and her husband Glen of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the O DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in LOWELL at 11 o clock. (Please Meet at Church).
