Thomas Davey Obituary

Thomas Edward Davey

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,

Thomas Edward Davey, 84, of Dracut, Massachusetts, but formerly of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 29, 2025, at his home.

Thomas was the loving husband for over 61 years of Ruth V. (Champlin) Davey, who survives him.

Born on September 9, 1940, and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas E., and the late Mary (Shanahan) Davey. He attended St. Patrick Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1957.

Thomas remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life.  From 1958 to 1962, he proudly served in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. His time in the military was a source of pride and a reflection of his lifelong commitment to service and leadership.

He spent much of his professional career at UMass Lowell, in the Physics Department where his hard work, integrity, and mentorship left a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.

A devoted Boston sports fan, Thomas never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved teams. Whether it was the Red Sox, Patriots or Bruins, he followed each season with unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm.

Thomas will be remembered most for his wisdom, his steadfast devotion to family, and his quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the dry humor he shared, the values he instilled, and the deep faith that guided him throughout his life.

In addition to his devoted wife Ruth, he is survived by his three loving sons: Mark T. Davey of Lowell, John J. Davey of Dracut, and Michael E. Davey and his wife Alexis of Windham, NH; his sister Katherine Casey and her husband Michael of Andover, MA; ten cherished grandchildren; two great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Elaine Milne and Rita Pinder.
