Walter A. Costello

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend;


Walter A. Costello, 91, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Wednesday January 6, 2021 after a brief illness.
He was the loving husband of the late Olga V. (Harmacinski) Costello.
Born in Dracut, Massachusetts, December 9, 1929, the son of the late John J. and the late Catherine (Delehanty) Costello, he attended Dracut schools and was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1947.
A veteran of the Korean War, Walter proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy.
Following the war, he graduated from Merrimack College with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Prior to his retirement after 30 years, Walter was the Director of Financial Aid for Lowell Technological Institute (later known as UMass Lowell). Previously, he worked for Raytheon Corporation in Andover for many years.
A dedicated veteran, he was a member of the Dracut Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Dracut American Legion.
Walter also loved to play golf with family and friends and enjoyed gardening around his house and he was a devoted fan of the University of Notre Dame
He is survived by two daughters Kathleen A. Costello and her fianc Robert Oliver of Raymond, NH and Karen M. Green and her husband Jack of Lowell; three grandchildren Ryan Przydzial and his wife Erica of Stoneham, Jay Green and Alanna Green both of Dracut; a sister Norma L. Sheppard of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild, Maximilian George Przydzial, who is due in February.
He was also the brother of the late Kathleen Cahill, the late Richard J. Costello and the late John J. Costello; brother-in-law of the late Robert W. Sheppard and the late William F. Cahill and uncle of the late Nancy Mullen Misiazek.
Due to gathering restrictions, all services were held privately for the family with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. A Celebration of Walters Life will be held at a later date when it is safe for family and friends to gather. E-condolences at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com .
