Helena S. Riney
Beloved mother, grandmother, and sister

Helena (Saunders) Riney of Concord, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the age of 92 with family by her side.

For over 50 years she was the loving wife of William Edward Riney until his death in 2001.

Helena was born to Albert L. Saunders and Mary (Carroll) Saunders in North Andover, Massachusetts.  The youngest of four children, she was a 1946 graduate of North Andover High School, attending Boston University for just one year. Financially unable to continue college, she attended the St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, graduating with her R.N. degree in the spring of 1950.  Following a brief time caring for newborns at Boston City Hospital, she wed William E. Riney (Bill) on November 25, 1950 and paused her nursing career.

Together, Helena and Bill raised seven children in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, in a busy and boisterous home.  Helena was the calm in the storm, radiating serenity amid the chaos of a large family. She was smart, highly organized, and energetic, with incredible stamina. Seemingly effortlessly, she juggled all the moving parts of a nine-member household, sometimes augmented by an additional teenager in need of refuge.  And through it all, she was unfailingly patient, loving, and fair.

Helena loved to learn and experience new things. She learned to play tennis at age 40, developing a new passion.  At age 44 she returned to work in the health care field and for 12 years was responsible for Housekeeping and Infection Control at Tewksbury State Hospital.  While working full time, Helena went back to college at night, earning her long-denied bachelor’s degree in psychology from New England College at the age of 55.  And at age 60, free of the constraints of working and raising children, she embarked on a global traveling spree spanning 20 years and six continents.

Anyone who knew Helena will remember her for her open and generous heart, her interest in each person with whom she spoke, the laughter and kindness in her    green eyes, and her words of wisdom. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was very much loved by all and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren.

Helena is survived by her four daughters, Anne F. Riney and her husband Myles Schumer of New York City, Susan Riney Miller and her husband Thomas Miller of Concord, MA, Catherine E. Riney and her husband Daniel Gallagher of Tyngsboro, MA, and Margaret R. Beaulieu and her husband Richard of Palmetto, FL; her three sons, Michael E. Riney and his wife Nancy of Sarasota, FL, James D. Riney and his wife Loretta Berardinelli of Venice, FL, and Kevin R. Riney and his wife Joyce of Kingston, NH; five loving grandchildren, Erin, Megan, and Patrick Riney and Benjamin and Samuel Miller; and four nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Funeral Mass at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, in Chelmsford on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 11 am (masks are encouraged), followed by her burial at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford.

Jean M. Curtis`

Beloved wife, sister, and aunt;

Jean M. (Gallivan) Curtis, 67, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away

peacefully on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, after a brief illness surrounded

by her loving family at Lowell General Hospital.

In June 1979, she married her beloved husband Thomas M. Curtis, Jr.

Soulmates and partners for five decades, their abundance of love was evident

to all lucky enough to be near “T+J”.

Born in Brighton, Massachusetts, April 7, 1954, she was the daughter of the

late Joseph A. and the late Frances (Honan) Gallivan. Growing up in

Winthrop, Jean could be found at the CYO and at the beach. She enjoyed the

Drum Corp and was a Color Guard Captain for the St. John’s Missiles.

Following graduation from Winthrop High School in 1972, she received her

Associates Degree from the Katharine Gibbs School. Jean was an Executive

Assistant for over 37 years at the Massachusetts Housing and Finance Agency

in Boston.

Between the office and her family, Jean was known for her organizational

skills and pension for detail. She crossed every “t”, dotted every “i” and

did it dressed with fabulous accessories - no doubt 75% off “bahgins” from

Filene’s Basement where she was a devoted daily shopper.

Spring, summer and fall, Jean was an avid gardener. From Medford to Lowell,

her gardens were legendary. Her backyard oasis was a favorite gathering

place for family and friends.

To her nieces and nephews, she was Auntie Jean - the forever “cool aunt”.

She passed on the family traditions of quick-wit, finding a good deal, being

organized and, most importantly, selflessness.

Jean’s caring personality extended beyond her immediate circle of family

and friends. She enjoyed spending time in her community volunteering for the

Wish Project and the Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Lowell.

Besides her husband, Jean is survived, her brother Paul Gallivan and his

wife Laura from Milton, MA; four sister-in laws, Catherine Gallivan from

Winthrop, MA; Kathleen Loane and her husband David from York, ME; Maureen

Clark and her husband Mark from Eliot, ME; Joanne O'Brien and her husband

Garry of Reading, MA; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is also

survived by her many dear friends and extended family members.

She was also predeceased by three brothers James, John, and Joseph

Gallivan.

Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL

on Friday October 15th, 2021, from 3 to 7 P.M. (Masks are required for

entrance to the Funeral Home). Relatives and friends are invited to attend

her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

CHURCH in LOWELL at 10 o’clock (Masks are strongly encouraged) followed by

her burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. Please dress as colorfully as

Harold Francis Hines
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, Trusted Business Advisor and Gentleman’s Gentleman;

Harold Francis Hines, 98, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts but formerly of Lowell, MA and Nashua, NH, died peacefully on Tuesday October 5, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on April 21, 1923, the son of the late James E. Hines and the late Mary J. (Whelan) Hines, he lived in Lowell most of his life before moving to Nashua in 1995.
He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (Paradis) Hines with whom he had celebrated 64 years of marriage until her recent passing on December 21, 2020.  Harold was at his happiest spending time with his family, playing a round of golf with his long-time friends, capturing family memories in his 100 plus photo albums or simply enjoying an evening cocktail.
He graduated from Keith Academy in 1941, and while at Keith, played varsity basketball and tennis.  Following graduation, he attended Wentworth Institute and became a tool maker and went to work for Remington Arms.  After a serious motor vehicle accident in 1943 that disqualified him from military service, he was employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad in the Auditor of Freight Receipts Office.  While working for the railroad he attended and graduated from Bentley University.
Upon graduating from Bentley in 1948, he embarked on a forty year career in public accounting.  He was employed by regional and international public accounting firms and was one of the founding partners and Managing Partner of Sullivan Bille & Company, Certified Public Accountants.  He retired from Sullivan Bille in 1988 and became C.F.O and a member of the Board of Northeast Offset, a commercial printer, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.  He retired in 2002.
During his public accounting career, he served on the Small Business Management Advisory Committee of the America Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He was a contributor to several of their accounting publications, including Assisting Small Business Clients in Obtaining Funds, Identifying Client Problems: A Diagnostic Review Technique, and Assisting Clients in Maximizing Profits.  
Harold was a life member of the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Societies of Certified Public Accountants.  He was a former State Chairman of the Practice Review Committee for the Massachusetts Society of C.P.A.’s and the former Chairman of the Greater Lowell United Fund.
He often said, “you have to give back to the community” and served on many organizations including: the University of Massachusetts – Lowell Business Advisory Committee , the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce as a Vice President and member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Greater Lowell Boy Scouts as Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Kiwanis Club of Lowell as Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors, the Lowell Boys Club as Trustee and member of the Finance Advisory Committee, the Central Saving Bank of Lowell as member of the Board of Trustees and an Incorporator, Community Teamwork, Inc. as Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors and Vesper Country Club as Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee.
A former member of the Yorick Club of Lowell, Vesper Country Club of Tyngsboro, and Abenaqui Country Club of Rye Beach, NH, he was also a Life member of the Lowell chapters of the Lodge of Elks and Knights of Columbus.
Harold attended and was an active member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church in Nashua and a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church in Lowell.
He is survived by four children:  a daughter, Louise Hines-Ike and her husband, Richard J. Ike, Jr. of Littleton, Colorado, a son, James Hines of Chicago, Illinois, a daughter, Constance McCarthy and her husband, Timothy McCarthy of Leawood, Kansas, and a son, Daniel Hines and his wife, Elizabeth Hines of Lowell, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren:  Ian Hines-Ike, Brendan Hines-Ike and fiancée Monique Todora, Kira Hines-Ike, Ryan  McCarthy and wife, Sara McCarthy, Devin McCarthy and wife, Katelyn McCarthy, Molly Bressler and husband, Kai Bressler, Shawn Hines, Samuel Hines, Daniel Hines, Pierce McCarthy, Deacon McCarthy, Hadley McCarthy and Mia Hines-Ike.  He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  
Harold was predeceased by his brother, David K. Hines, in 2003.

Robert C. Furey

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Robert C. Furey, 75, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was the loving husband for over 52 years of Diane (Murphy) Furey.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 4, 1946, the son of the late James F. and the late Dorothy M. (Rowswell) Furey, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of the Lowell Trade School.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Bob proudly served his family as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Prior to his retirement, he was a service technician for over 40 years with Colonial Gas, Lowell Gas and ultimately National Grid.

A car enthusiast, Bob was the proud owner of an antique 1980 Chevy Malibu which he showcased at many car shows and won many awards. He enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends and all Boston sports.

However, his greatest joy was when he was with his family, especially his granddaughter.

Besides his wife Diane, Bob is survived by his son Shaun Furey and his wife Kerry and his granddaughter Kaylee Furey all of Lowell; a brother James F. Furey and his wife Betty of Nashua, NH; two sister-in-laws Barbara Tyskewicz of Dracut and Colleen Boykins of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
